These 6 teams shake their hands and introduce their works each other at the orientation. However, season 3 was proceeded with separate orientation due to the fact that 4 teams were selected first and 2 teams later. On Sep. 28, entire participants and writers gathered to greet and they had time to introduce their own works right before the creative lecture began.
Writer Ji-Hye Yoo for ‘DIAL’
“Mom was a telephone operator. She told me about it at that time when I visit my home town. My mom’s story was overlapped while reading ‘Reformation history book in 1960~1970s’. So I tried to write the telephone company story of 1960~1970s. I am making the reason to write this work clear right after the table reading. We hope to meet people, and we can make sure our existences when we share our thoughts and feelings. So I made the summary of this work, ‘A person is able to be healed and connected only through another person’.”
Wrtier Min-Jae Park, Composer Han-Sik Kong for ‘Dear Papa, My Fireman’
“We are the only man writers for this season (LOL). This work might be the last one of my fireman story. This is about the story of conflict between fireman daddy and his daughter who wants to be an idol rapper. His daughter has a trauma to her daddy that he saved another patient instead of her on the accident 10 years ago. I am thinking about controlling the number of characters and quantity more than that of table reading. The process of reconciliation between daddy and daughter will be much detailed, and some exaggerated scenes are deleted. I think that audiences would like this only if I like this. I am improving this work like that.”
“I made a rap musical, but I changed and reduce into 2 rap music in according to many advices about the danger of rap music. I’d like to make a popular work which audiences like. I am considering how this would contain the popular music by connecting the fact that she is an aspirant for the idol.”
Writer Youn-Mi Kim for ‘ARTHUR SAVIL’S CRIME’
This is a story to face his desire through 3 prophecies by chance. The original is a novel of Oscar Wilde. I hoped to make a musical with the subject such as prophecy, murder, and human desire because those are heavy but attractive. I preferred silent movies as ‘The Great Gatsby’, so I set up the background with Golden age of the United States in 1920s. I wanted to develop the size into mid-sized theater, but I am now thinking about making this with small-sized theater version on the background of American salon or bar by increasing density of characters. At the time of table reading, some point-outs such as ‘main character’s desire is a little dimmed’, or ‘prophecies come true too easily’ came up. Supporting casts were used somewhat like instrumental, so I am going to make them more humanistic.”
Writer Ji-Young Kim for ‘Orange Madeleine’
“This is a story about an interview of a bakery by the ex-boyfriend Roven’s hiding who he was to the patissier Albertine who lost her memory. This is a mystery melodrama, and main background is a small bakery, Reutureube. Point-outs at the table reading that the lack of probability and hard to agree came out. I was about to re-write the story instead of concept, however I am just revising the existent story by the director Hyun-Woo Kim’s advice that the story will be much better if it’s revised instead of making another new story. I am now back to the formula what I am thinking about the love, and what I want to tell the audiences in this work.”
Writer Yoo-Jung Kim and Composer Ha-Nim Kang for ‘Death and the Maiden’
“I wrote this with 3 points. Shubert was not even credited when he was alive even if he composed more than a thousand music. He died young at his 31-year-old for spirochete. He is something to do with Beethoven. He lived on Beethoven’s era and he was Beethoven’s big fan, however Shubert was too shy to visit him even if Shubert lived right across the road of Beethoven’s place. So these facts were the materials of this musical by mixing with some fiction. I am trying to make a story of an artist who accepts himself by reconciling with his inferiority before he died. I increased into 8 characters by considering that the first 3 characters act might be weak for their conflict.”
“I am a little worried how much I should use the Shubert’s music on this musical. Any other expressions or explanations won’t be necessary if there’s only his music. So I am trying to make my own popular music harmonious to the classic music.”
Writer Yoo-Sun Oh for ‘COMIC-Cal’
“Title is ‘COMIC-CAL’. This is a kind of comedy musical with using a material from web-toon. Background is a near future in 2020. In the real world, webtoonist aspirant Han-Do and Soo-Jin who is maniac for reply worrier come up. Meanwhile in the webtoon world, Nam-Joo for the freaky cartoon instead of melo-cartoon, her dream, and Yeo-Joo, the freakiest character in the cartoon come up. I am going to make this much funny than before because there are so many people who told me that it was not that funny, even if I tried to make this as comedy musical. I plan to make web-toon world much freakier, and increase real world scenes than before. Han-Do and Soo-Jin argues all the time on the internet even if they are not in the real world, so I am planning to make their relationship much funny sooner or later when it’s been revealed. People pointed out that the web-toon world was a little confused. So I am planning to make the rules in the world clear by limiting only one cartoonist’s world just like the animation movie ‘Inside Out’. Just the thought but, there were too embarrassing scripts at the time of table reading, so I am going to change these generally funny to the audiences.”
