‘Orange Madeleine’ which opened the second day of table reading is a mystery romance musical to dig up the hidden past between the main character Albertine who wants to find her lost memory even if she’s working for the small bakery ‘Reutureube’ which is located on the street of Paris in 1919 as a patissier, and a famous magazine reporter Roven who suddenly showed up on her. This work is unique and fresh with its background of ‘Orange Madeleine’ and bakery which is hardly found among the previous musical. Writer Ji-Young Kim mentioned the 『Finding lost times』 of Marcel Proust and announced that she brought the subject from the ‘Proust Effect’ to recall the lost memories long time ago with olfactory sense (smell).
However ‘Orange Madeleine’ was pointed out for the lack of entire probability and the problem of storytelling style. Professor Soo-Young Kim pointed out the lack of probability on the setting as well by commenting that the story would be just fine even if the background, place, period and occupation of characters on the basic settings are exactly same as that of present day.
The problem was same on the motive and action of character. Director Byoung-Sung Park of The MUSICAL put on his opinion that he could hardly understand the situations that the other competitors was able to copy the recipe of Orange Madeleine so easily even if it was very important key for this work, and most of all, Roven was supposed to be very smart at the beginning of the work, however he made so stupid decision to hand over the recipe too easily. He added, “The attractiveness of character is declined due to the fact that the action and decision of the character is not so attractive”. It means he asked to make a persuasive motive. Je-Hyoung Ryu, director of SAMSAN ENT also advised that the power of this work will arise from the point how to bring emotion of turning point and said, “The scene for the important turning point on the work was not so detail that it loses its persuasion as time goes by.”
The large portion of this mystery of the mystery romance, ‘Orange Madeleine’ depends on the hidden past of characters, however incidents of each character is mostly insufficient so the improvement is needed. Like the comment of Byoung-Won Kang, CEO of the LIVE, reversal and the previous incidents without systematic composition could decline suspense of the work. Director Hyun-Woo Kim said, “I understand how much the reversal would satisfy audiences, but, the previous incident of each character is not fully melted in each character.” And director Park and Ryu also asked to melt each character on the scenario naturally, and to get rid of unselected incident for making characters consistent.
